Sophie has a best friend, and his name is Max. They go to Spanish school, co-op preschool and are just generally good friends. She’s always asking about where he and what he’s doing. She nick-named him Maka Maka when she was about 1 year old. They’ve been friends since they were 6 months old. Happy Birthday Max!
We attended Mariner’s Fan Fest over the weekend. We met Lisa at Safeco field to explore the stadium. When Sophie saw this poster, she said “Holy Frijoles, it’s Griff Dog!” This poster is now in her room, and she’s asking where her Ichiro poster is. Oh, boy! She absolutely loves baseball!
The other day we went to get the car washed, and Sophie was really excited about going through the automated car wash. After we waited in line a few minutes, I pulled the car up to the entrance. As the tracks started pulling the car into the car wash, Sophie said she didn’t want to go. She became really upset. I consoled her and we went through just fine. About 20 minutes later she said to me “Mommy, I made a mistake. Will you forgive me?” When I asked her about the mistake she made, she said she changed her mind about the car wash and she was sorry.
That girl.
Tim and I took Sophie to see Fantastic Mr. Fox . It was a super cute movie. She enjoyed eating her pop corn and was amazed with how big the screen was. Although, halfway through the movie, she said “I’m disappointed this movie is so scary, that’s too bad.”
Before our trip to Portland for Thanksgiving, I told Sophie about the holiday and what to expect. I let her know that we will have an opportunity to tell each other what we are thankful for. When I asked her what she’s thankful for she said “I’m thankful for my family”. Then I asked her what other people might be thankful for…
What do you think Alice (the dog) is thankful for? “Thankful for bones”
What do you think Gogi is thankful for? “Thankful for family”
What do you think Sophie is thankful for? “Thankful for Mommy & her family”
What do you think Harley is thankful for? “Toys”
What do you think Nana & Papa are thankful for? “Family”
What do you think Daddy is thankful for? “Thankful for work”
I treated Sophie to a trip to see some of my family in Arizona while Tim was at the PDC conference in Los Angeles. A few weeks before our scheduled trip, Sophie started potty training. When it came time for us to take our trip I was really nervous. I packed a ton of extra clothes just in case. Like always, she surprised me. She wore underpants on the entire plane ride and she even sat on the potty on the plane. When we arrived in Tucson we met a little 3 year old girl named Ava while we were waiting for our baggage. The girls even played ring around the Rosie at baggage claim.
Grandma Eileen picked us up from the airport and took us to her new home. It’s a great little house just a few houses down from Julie’s house. When we walked in to G’ma Eileen’s house, we were immediately greeted by Taco Bell the Chihuahua, longtime family companion. Sophie absolutely loves Taco. Ever since she was a little baby, she and Taco have had a special bond.
That night, we had dinner with the rest of the family, including 6 of Sophie’s cousins. She was in heaven. Michael and Cody were Sophie’s buddies. The followed her around and make sure she had everything she needed. Gabbie and Maddy were having many property wars, which Sophie didn’t care to be a part of. Jackie and Lauren, now teenagers, were very sweet to their little cousin.
On Tuesday, we walked over to Julie and Mike’s house for a morning visit. We all decided to drive up to the Desert Museum to check out the desert animals. Come to find out, many of these animals (and plants) you can just see in your backyard. As Lisa commented “it’s like going to the tree and grass museum in Seattle”. We headed back home to rest up for a big dinner at Karichimaka (one of the family favorites). My first visit to Karichimaka was when I was just a few years old. The cheese crisps have never failed to disappoint.
On Wednesday, we headed up to my dad’s pecan farm (B5 farm) in Cochise. They started harvesting that morning, and Allen and Amanda were meeting the crew to see their progress. It was so fun to the harvest in action. Sophie loved playing in the dirt. She was covered from head to toe by the time we had to leave. Allen drove us around the farm as we checked on the harvest. At one point, he pulled the truck over, and asked Sophie if he wanted to drive the truck. Her face lit up like a spark! She climbed up onto his lap and he let her steer the truck as he drove really slowly. She was in heaven!!
Thursday morning, Sophie and I met with her Uncle Mike at the Green Valley Firestation for a personal tour. First we got to meet his crew and tour the living quarters. He showed us all of the trucks and engines and Sophie got to sit in every one! She really loved pretending to be a fire fighter. When we left the fire station, we headed back to Eileen’s to pack for the trip home.
When we got back to Seattle, she said she wanted to go on another trip. She was very disappointed that she couldn’t go, but fell asleep within 2 minutes of driving home.
I enjoyed travelling with my little girl. She’s very patient and fun! I can’t wait for our next adventure!

What a fun Halloween we had this year!! Sophie dressed up like a pirate (big surprise for those of you that know her). After a mellow morning and a model attempt at a nap, we headed to the Seattle Public Library to see Sophie’s favorite pirate band Captain Bogg & Salty. Without her nap, Sophie was feeling a bit anti-social, but still enjoyed herself.
After we left the library, we headed to the Madrona neighborhood for some trick-or-treating. Madrona had a pirate scavenger hunt and halloween party. We stopped by local shops and Sophie gladly held out her bag and asked for treats. After we were done with treating, we had dinner at the Madrona Pub. She enjoyed visiting with the other kids that were dressed up. She was quite a trooper with such a busy day.
This video highlights Sophie’s wonderful summer/fall that was filled with baseball games, pony rides, pirate dress-up, and playing with our friends.
Some of her sentences:
“Daddy, would you like to go to the park with me?”
“Mommy, would you like to play with me?”
“Can I watch TV, por favor?”
“Can I have a lollypop, por favor?”
“Uno mas libro?”
Daddy was trying to get her to focus on dinner, and she ran into the kitchen and stood behind me, hiding. Then she said “Oh, I was just tickling Mommy!”
Sophie has found a new love, baseball! Lisa and I took her to see a game a in September and she chanted “go Ichiro!” Everyone sitting next to us started laughing! She enjoyed her hotdog, popcorn and people watching. She loved it so much, she wanted to go again!!
On Oct 4th, Tim, Lisa and I took a light rail train to Safeco stadium to see Ken Griffey Jr’s last game. The last game of the season was kid’s appreciation day. There were many mascots, prizes, coloring contests and yummy food.
We are looking forward to more games next season!
“Daddy, did you have a nice day at work?”
“Mommy, did you have a nice day at your haircut?”
“Oh, mommy looks tired and needs to sleep, let’s give her some privacy.”
Tami: “That’s a honey crisp apple.” Sophie: No, it looks like a Macintosh.”
Tim: “Sophie, please come here at eat your dinner.” Sophie runs into the kitchen behind Tami starts tickling her and says “Oh, I was just tickling mommy.”
