I just wanted to post a little note about this morning … after getting ready for work, I found Tami and Sophie in Sophie’s room, reading books, and talking about going to the Seattle Center Fun Forest to ride the kids’ roller-coaster.

Sophie explained to me how when she was a “little kid” she went there and rode the coaster, and “cried for her Mom.”  But now she’s a big girl and wants to go back and ride it and “this time [she's] not going to cry.”  I gave her a little kiss.

She then asked for her customary vanilla milk and a vitamin.  I went downstairs and made Tami a little latte and got Sophie her start to the morning.  After many kisses, I headed out the door and to work.

Good morning :-)

This Saturday was SeaFair weekend, and, as we have the last few years, we were invited to Ali and Ed Scheff’s house.  Ali and Ed have two kids, Ruby (3 1/2 years old, and Grady, almost one year old.)  Ruby and Sophie are great friends, and it’s so much fun for the parents to see them play together.  Ali and Ed live in Columbia City, here in Seattle, and have a wonderful place with a fantastic view of Lake Washington, where the speed-boat races are held and over which the Blue Angels fly ever year.  Because of this great view of the fun, Ali and Ed have established a yearly party, and it’s always lots of fun.

Not only is it fun, but Ali and Ed are great chefs (or Sheffs, as they case may be) and always lay out an amazing spread of lamb-burgers, hamburgers, hot-dogs, potato salad, broccoli salad, and the like.  They always add just a little special touch to what they do.

The day was pretty cloudy, so the Blue Angels had to fly pretty low to put on their show – which was great.  Tami and Sophie are especially fond of the Blue Angels so really enjoyed the show.  Sophie even had her own set of pink earplugs (at her request).

After the festivities, we went home and relaxed.  Later that night I went out with my friend John (Johnny Mayday (Coyle)), went to a party, and then came back to West Seattle for some pizza and catching-up.  Since he moved to Los Angeles, I don’t see him nearly enough.

Today, Sunday, has been a great day so far: playing and a little cuddling while watching a couple cartoons with Sophie, then off to the West Seattle farmers’ market, burritos at Tacos Guaymas (just me and Sophie while Tami was shopping), then to the toy-store and pet-store.

It’s been a great weekend so far and I’m looking forward to a great week at work and at home with the family.

We had a great time last night hanging out at Hiawatha Playfield in West Seattle.  Poppa and Nana came down from Snoqualmie and we all rendevouzed at the park.  There, we sat on the grass, ate KFC, and danced with Sophie.  We saw lots of friends there including Dulce and her daughter Isabelle, Tami’s friend Lupine, and others.  The park was *stocked* with kids of all ages. As well, a lot of the older folks from the local nursing homes came, so there was a fantastic array of ages and cultures there.

Again, it was a really nice family-oriented night, and I hope to go to this little event next year.

One of our favorite outings as a family or just with Sophie is to go to the Museum of Flight in Sea/Tac, just South of Seattle, close to the airport, of course, and Boeing Field.  Sophie just loves the giant planes. The Kids Zone has a lot of things for the kids to play on. There are 2 small aircraft, a helicopter and lots of levers and knobs. There is also a small Blue Angel ride just for the kids. Sophie loves to fly it and practice her bank rolls.

Sophie’s Grandma Linda (or Gogi) celebrated her 65th birthday with us in Seattle. We took her to dinner at The 5 spot in Queen Anne. Kelly, Dan, Charlie, Lisa & Kevin also joined us. After dinner, we enjoyed Trophy Cupcakes and mom had a special red velvet cake with coconut. We shared a lot of laughs and got a kick out of watching Sophie and Charlie together.

The next day, Steve and kay met us at Lake Union and we all surprised her with a paddleboat ride on the Queen of Seattle. It was a fun tour of Lake Union. They also had a cabaret and a dance floor. The kids were dancing like crazy. I can’t wait until our first family talent show! Everyone had a great time celebrating with Linda. Happy Birthday, Mom!!

Sophie and I headed to The Corson Building to celebrate Bastille Day. They were hosting a big event with lots of games and music (even her favorite band, Caspar Babypants!) Sophie’s best bud, Max, was there with his mom and his nana. After the show, we headed over to the chicken coop for the chicken race. Chef Matt Dillon was there to coach the kids with their chickens. Maybe next year we’ll win!

For a special treat, we took Sophie to a Mariners baseball game. Steve and Kay met us for the game. Lisa was there with one of her friends, so we got to visit with her for a few minutes, too!

We had hot dogs, lemonade and cotton candy. The Moose was in his den during one of the innings, so Sophie, Kay and I went to visit and get our photo taken. We love the Mariners!

Remlinger Farms is a fun destination for kids. Each year they have a Strawberry Festival in June. We enjoyed walking around the “strawberry themed” park. They had kiddie rides, a train, petting zoo, pony rides and a climbing wall. She rode on many of the rides by herself. She even tried out the climbing wall! Her favorite ride was the train. It takes a path through the park and we rode it 3 times! The pony ride was our last stop before heading home. Her pony, Cucumber, was very sweet and gentle. We can’t wait until October, when Remlinger Farms has their Harvest Festival.

This month, I took a 4-week sailing class with one of my friends, Natalie at the Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing club. It’s been a great opportunity for me to get outside and for Tim to have some Dad/Daughter time with Sophie.

I’m really looking forward to getting out on the water more often.

Tim and I took Sophie to see one of her favorite bands, Caspar Babypants. You can see how much fun she had:
